Edna Miriam Lister What is healing? To some, healing pertains to the physical body, to others, healing applies only to their affairs, and to a few, healing means harmony. So, healing may be considered in many aspects, all true and equally important, which after all resolve to only one, and that one is the Source of our life. We must start at the Source. To understand healing, we must first understand fundamental Principle, which is the absolute, unchangeable, undeviating, immutable foundation upon which all universes are based and established. "My conviction is unshakable because I know that I cannot change Principle." Write this on a card, repeat it until you memorize it and live by it. This is the foundation of your life: You cannot change Principle. The essence of healing is the Power of God directed as Light and Love, which is greater than Power inverted and used as evil. Every dictator and worldly ruler has flourished and then faded. If Light cannot heal them while they are in a body of flesh, Light must absorb and remove them. What is your conviction? We pray for Light to permeate the world’s dictators, and Light shall lift and heal everything they do. If enough Light moves through you, it will heal you, but the source of healing is foundation Principle. When you arise in the morning, move into your body and let the River of Life flow through you. When it does, your healing is perfect and you are strong. Healing is the direct result of moving from a lower to a higher rate of vibration of Divine Substance, to a higher state of consciousness. We must heal life itself of all phases of darkness before we satisfy our Heavenly Father. Have you gained that fine point of realization that your Father’s will is for you to live in absolute perfection? This is your natural estate. Anything short of perfection is a lesser creation, an unnatural state. Just an ordinary "state" means a "circumstance" or "condition." An "estate" is an inheritance. Your natural estate is your heritage from your Supreme Father. The prefix E means "out from" the state of being of the Godhead, our Source. Your natural Estate is to be as nearly like the Father, in the image and likeness of supreme perfection, as is possible right now. The greatest gift we can bring our Father in Heaven is the perfect, unwavering consciousness that He wishes us to have all good things now. Then we work steadily toward creating all good for ourselves through the three fundamental Principles of the universe, the One Mind, the One Power, the One Substance. He pours out this manna as our daily bread, our sustenance for soul and nourishment for growth. All healing results from our application of these Principles, Mind, Power and Substance, which are the only tools and ingredients we have or need to use for all healing. They are available in whatever phase we need: Mind to think and plan, Power to direct and control, and Substance to become form according to the flame of our desire. Principle governs, regulates and controls the universe as created by the Supreme Father. Principle differs from Law. We derive Law from Principle to govern, regulate and control the actions of individual Creators and there are varying degrees of Law. In all the universes, we can do only two things to Universal Substance, we can either raise or lower its rate of vibration. Thus, Substance is amenable to only two Laws. The Law of Expansion says that we may raise the rate of vibration of Substance, physical or spiritual and Substance expands. The Law of Contraction says that we may lower the rate of vibration to contract or condense Substance. These two Laws are completely scientific in their nature and we may not alter or change them to suit an individual’s whim. Expansion and Contraction are fundamental Principles, inevitable and invariable in their action. We cannot change Universal Substance. We can only lower its rate of vibration to condense Substance, or raise its rate of vibration to expand Substance. Any illness is due to the operation of the Law of Contraction, lowering the rate of vibration, and crystallizing Substance. A low, condensed rate of vibration in Substance, or consciousness, results in crystallization and finally illness. A raised, expanded rate of vibration results in health. Therefore, physical healing is more Light, more Power and more Substance inflating the physical atoms with the heat of joy. A natural illustration is raising the temperature of ice to steam. Physically, ice and steam are the same Substance in different states of unconsciousness, in different phases of being or expression, in different rates of vibration. The following statements express this concept in Mind at various levels: The scientist would say, "Principle manifests as different rates of vibration." The metaphysician would say, "Principle manifests as different states of unconsciousness." The philosopher would say, "Principle manifests as different phases of being or expression." The pure White Light of the Christ is the high, positive pole of healing action. The white heat of joy is the One Mind, Power and Substance of the River of Life flowing throughout creation. To precipitate the White Light of the Christ from its highest inner to its lowest outer activity, we must lower its rate of vibration to condense Substance into visible form. Then we may lower it further to become "ice," its lowest outer form. Crystallization into solid ice is the opposite, negative pole of healing action. Though hard and lifeless, ice is still composed of the ingredients that underlie all Creation, Mind, Substance and Power. Our alternative then is raising the lowest rate of vibration and expanding Substance until it becomes invisible to the physical eye. This is our basis for all healing: The White Light of the Christ can always melt anything reduced to a state of crystallized ice and by raising the rate of vibration, can cause it to vibrate and throb with the fullness of life. The concept of healing rests on so simple a basis. Intellect cannot alter this, but we can apply it to all outer conditions and circumstances. We can err and lower Substance’s rate of vibration two ways, by wrong, negative "intellectual" thinking and planning, or by negative "little self" directing and controlling. We can condense Substance’s state of being until it reaches the "ice" stage, expressing as a complete paralysis of mind, body or affairs. Conversely, we may melt Substance reduced to ice, and recreate it into a perfect physical body or part. All it takes is positive right thinking and planning under the "let" decree of soul, and positive right directing and controlling. We may revitalize and quicken our affairs into renewed life. We believe in God who is everywhere evenly present and available in all His Parts, Qualities, Potentialities, Attributes and Substance. If God is everywhere evenly present in all His perfect Substance, how can we have an illness, a malformation or a malignant growth? No "ice state" of Substance in outer form, or state of consciousness is too crystallized to be hopeless. God has given Substance, the primordial essence of Light as the lifesparks of which all things are made, the power to become. God has given the Living Soul the power of conscious direction and control. Mind always begins first to think and plan for the "perfect" in every department of life. Every Living Soul has three phases of the one Divine Mind. Psychology calls them the subconscious, conscious and superconscious. Subconscious mind is the most primitive, animal-like level of instinctive intelligence and desire. The urges of eating, sleeping and procreating rule it. Conscious mind is the creature state of conscious intelligence and conscious desire. Conscious mind is not a creative thinker, although memory and comparison are among its functions. It is the evolving creature mind. The superconscious is Creative Mind, which matter has never touched. It is Divine Intelligence as Wisdom, and Divine Desire as Love, expressing as "I am." Superconscious mind functions as the faculties of intuition and illumination. We are three phases of soul expressing as personality, which is the synthesis of emotional experience with unfolded, developed intellect. Subsoul refers to instinctive intelligence and instinctive desire that expresses as plausible. Subsoul, which has evolved upward from many lives and myriad experiences, uses physical cells and desire body molecules as its vehicle. Egoic soul correlates the conscious choices of personality and intellectual intelligence as exercised through the mental faculties. The egoic soul uses desire body molecules and mental body atoms as its vehicle. Oversoul expresses as the qualities of intuition, the Love Principle, and illumination, the Wisdom Principle. Oversoul uses mental body atoms for comprehension and creative thinking, using all mental faculties, including logic, reason, discretion, discrimination and discernment, which function from the frontal lobes of the brain. We may earn a fourth phase of soul, known as the Supreme Oversoul, under the highest soul conquering. When we ascend to the Supreme Oversoul, it expresses as apperception, cosmic or Christed consciousness. Next we reach the "psychosomatic" realm of study where we learn the action, reaction and interaction of the phases of mind, and the relationship between mind and body. We cannot understand ourselves without some knowledge of these. We base all healing primarily on the great Principle of the spoken Word, the third Emanation, the Holy Ghost, the Son: "In the beginning was the Word." No healing can occur without the use of this Principle, which includes hypnotism and the power of suggestion. "This is good. I am loves you into perfect strength. You are healed." These declarations are the most positive applications of the power of suggestion, which is perfect expression when it is completely impersonal and not interfering. Suggestions used with no personality entering from either side are only words as Light, spoken from a high state of consciousness. The power of suggestion includes hypnotism, which in its purest form is good. Every word printed or spoken, whether in person, on television or radio, is a picture repeated to create desire – and it hypnotizes. On the low pole, the power of suggestion includes mass hypnotism. Hitler, as all who are greedy for power, relied upon mass hypnotism to extract money and obedience from men. Noninterference requires restraint. The Laws of Restraint are first, "Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of my brethren, you did it to me." If you love God enough, you cannot hurt anyone. Second, "Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven." The "least in the Kingdom" is mindless. Consciousness regresses through eight stages before it loses intelligence. Within these stages lay all subconscious fears and limitations. One can give away a "piece of my mind" until nothing remains but impressions, repressions, suppressions, complexes, illusions, delusions, hallucinations and obsessions. Impressions, prenatal and postnatal, are the results of influences passively received on the senses or mind. We can have an impression of what we think the other fellow means by his tone of voice, facial expression and posture. Repression is caused by controlling emotional reactions and burying them from the conscious mind. This applies to relationships, especially where we bury resentment and hatred. Suppression is the forceful control or keeping secret one’s personal appetites and desires, caused by doubt or fear of being laughed at or of being punished. Complexes are born of self-pity arising from envy, jealousy or the desire to possess. A complex multiplies fear until fear becomes the individual’s response to life. Illusions are usually misperceptions involving the spoken word. More subtle is the illusion born of being unable to discern a particular phase of truth at all. Delusions are self-deceptions, the heaviest of which are delusions of grandeur and greatness where you deceive yourself into believing everything you hear, whether flattery or criticism. Hallucinations, generally regarded as seeing or hearing what is not there, are born of fact then exaggerated out of proportion by fear, hatred, a revenge motive, etc. Obsession holds all negative emotions, where nothing else enters. It is the final stage of no mind. Obsessions include manias and phobias. We project all illness from the subconscious mind. We must cleanse it because old fears from these eight stages do project themselves into the conscious mind and will eventually burn out the body if ignored. How do we cleanse the subconscious? The first step is "Ask anything in my name." Do you believe this? Make up your conscious mind, backed by the superconscious, your Oversoul. "In the name of Jesus the Christ, I am now cleanses as Light. This is good. Let there be Light." What determines who is healed? Faith. "According to your faith, let it be done to you." The one who can respond to that appeal can seek God in devotion and faith. Believe in God as Personality and Faith. Your soul confidence must be born of Faith, the Substance of lifesparks for healing and renewing. Faith is enough when backed by the Love of God, your confidence about what must be healed, and how to do it. Unconsciously we slip into old patterns. The noblest thoughts can run along the surface while the subconscious runs on a subway of its own fears, using imagination for its picture building, which proves we can live on two levels at once. The ship’s captain stays in the pilot house but he also must inspect the hold and cargo. He still carries on at the bridge, either by locking the wheel in place or by placing a responsible officer in charge. Lock the wheel of your ship to the Love of God. The officer in charge is your Faith of God steering while you inspect the ship’s hold. Usually healing is a process, and sometimes healing is an instantaneous act. Form new habits. It’s as simple as that. You recondition the subsoul. The treatment is sublimation. When lesser suggestions arise from the subconscious, just use these higher suggestions: "I am conquering. I am overcoming. I am resurrecting the little self." Use powerful suggestions day and night until your perfect Love of God lifts you, and casts out all fear. |
